A workshop within the framework of the regional program "From glaciers to farms" (G2F) to increase resilience to climate change and sustainable development in Central and West Asia was held in CAIAG.
On April 9, 2025, the conference hall of CAIAG in Bishkek hosted a workshop within the framework of the G2F program aimed at increasing resilience to climate change in Central and West Asia.
Key topics of the workshop included:
- Climate change and glacier research, their impacts and preparedness measures
- Policies and governance on glacier monitoring, hydrometeorology and early warning
- Assessment of institutions’ needs to implement the G2F program
The workshop was presented by CAIAG Co-director Bolot Moldobekov and Maria Shakhgedanova from the University of Reading. The program included presentations by representatives of KyrgyzHydromet, EMERCOM, Ministries of Natural Resources, Water Resources, Energy and Economy, as well as UNDP, Irrigation Institute, AUCA and CAIAG. Participants discussed data availability, research gaps, early warning systems and the need for regional cooperation.
The event concluded with a debriefing and recommendations for future climate change adaptation projects in the region.
