Mission of UNDP and CAIAG Discussed Cooperation in Seismic Risk Reduction

On July 9, 2026, a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the UNDP Istanbul Hub and the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, led by Regional Program Specialist Khusrav Sharifov, met with the heads of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences.

 

Co-Director Bolot Moldobekov, department heads and researchers of the institute presented information on scientific projects and initiatives to reduce damage from natural disasters, including the seismic early warning system developed at CAIAG.

 

The parties discussed leveraging the scientific and technical potential of CAIAG and UNDP for joint work at the local and regional levels.

 

The consultation meeting was organized as part of the implementation of the regional projects "Strengthening the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction System in Central Asia" and "Increasing the Resilience of Cities to Disaster Risks and Climate Change in Central Asia".
