CAIAG Co-Director Bolot Moldobekov Participated in the Regional Dialogue on Cryospheric Sciences in Central Asia
On March 19, during an online event, representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, with experts from the Universities of Fribourg and Zurich, and representatives of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, discussed the lessons from the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP 2025) with the joint implementation of the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (DACS 2025–2034).
During an interactive panel discussion, Co-Director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences Bolot Moldobekov reported about methods for monitoring and studying glaciers and snow cover changes in Kyrgyzstan.
Based on the CAIAG practice, Bolot Moldobekov presented his experience in combining international standards with national specifics in organizing monitoring.
Participants proposed actions and initiatives to strengthen cooperation in the cryosphere to ensure water security, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in the region.
