Acting Head of Department at CAIAG Olga Kalashnikova Participated in the MODSNOW Workshop
From February 16-19, 2026, in Tashkent a workshop on the early warning system MODSNOW was held for Central Asian experts.
The MODSNOW system includes monitoring of expected natural hazards and early warning in Central Asia, thereby facilitating protection and mitigation.
Workshop participants learned about using MODSNOW to integrate and analyze hydrometeorological data, testing the system in selected pilot river basins, and strategies for implementation and scaling up in Central Asia. Application of its methods is expected to impact both disaster risk reduction and trans-boundary water resource management in the region.
The MODSNOW EWS project is being implemented within the framework of the regional program "Climate Risk Management in Central Asia" (CRMCA), which is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Government and co-financed by the UK Government.
