Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership Initiative (NEESPI) together with Central Asia Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG), German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), NASA (USA), RIHN (Japan), the University of Idaho, Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IG RAS), and Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory of Roshydromet will hold the seven-day-long scientific and educational Event that will include:
The International Young Scientists School on Environmental Studies at High Elevations will be held on 8-9 September 2009 in Russian.
A Regional NEESPI Science Team Research Workshop to discuss existing projects and development of new research within mountain regions of the NEESPI domain will be held on 9-11 September 2009 in English.
An International Workshop devoted to Climatic, Environmental, Land Cover-Land Use Change Studies at High Elevations will be held 12-13 September 2009 in English.
At the NEESPI Workshop, in addition to reports on advance of NEESPI projects related to the High Elevation Areas in Northern Eurasia, assessment of the current state of understanding of processes that control regional environmental changes, and planning of the future NEESPI studies, particular attention (a special Session) will be dedicated to the current and planned activities of the Central Asia Institute for Applied Geosciences in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Workshop Statement on status of High Elevation Environment studies, current gaps of knowledge, and the priorities of further research will be drafted and discussed.
Dynamics and feedbacks of changes in climate and low-troposphere moisture transfer and surface water resources redistribution between natural stores of waters (seasonal snow cover, glaciers, permafrost, lakes, rivers and aquifers).
Changes in mountain ecosystems affecting downstream areas (de-glaciation, biodiversity, forests and shrubs, land degradation, land use and hazards, water quality, and socio-economical consequences).
State-of-the-art methods of field research, remote sensing, and modeling and their application to assist in meeting the NEESPI (HE) research scientific objectives.
Long-term data accessibility and analysis for the NEESPI mountainous area (data control, data calibration, validation, and modeling).
Both Workshops will have a form of scientific discussions on the defined topics. Each topic or objective will have one keynote speaker who will illuminate the problem and make an overview of relevant research that has been done and possible approaches to new proposed research and solutions. While the theme of both Workshops will be the same, we distinguish the International Workshop from the Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership Initiative (NEESPI) Workshop mostly by the status of their presenters: Presentations at the International Workshop will be invited from the entire scientific community involved in High Elevation Areas research in Northern Eurasia, while presentations at the NEESPI Workshop will be reserved to the NEESPI Science Team members only. The state and dynamics of high elevation cryosphere and natural hazards caused by changes in this state

International Field Excursion and Workshop on Tectonic Evolution
and Crustal Structure of the TianshanBelt and Related Terrains in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, 8-17 June, 2009
The Central Asian Institute of Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in cooperation with ILP-Projects Topo-Central Asia and ERAS (Earth Accretionary Systems), will organize an international geological transect across the Kyrgyz Tianshan, followed by a 2-day workshop in Bishkek. The purpose of this meeting is to compare the Tianshan in Kyrgyzstan and China, present and discuss new data from both terrains, and to discuss future international cooperation on geological and geophysical research in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, including a proposed seismic/geologicd transect from North China to Siberia. The field trip will be limited to about 20 participants, but the workshop will be open to any interested participant. The field trip will be an 8-day N-S transect across the Northern, Central and Southern Tianshan to compare and contrast the rock types, structures, metamorphism and tectonic evolution of the Kyrgyz Tianshan with the Chinese Tianshan and to discuss the evolution of the Tianshan within the general frame of Central Asian geology. The following workshop will provide the opportunity to present new research results and to discuss future cooperative work.
The meeting language will be English.

Transboundary prevention of consequences of natural catastrophe in Central Asia
Project «Seismic micro zoning»
Bishkek, Kirghiz Republic
December 2-5, 2008
Central-Asian institute for applied geosciences (CAIAG) and German Centre of geosciences (GFZ) ) conduct training under the project “Seismic micro zoning” in Bishkek.
The purpose of the project – to bring the essential contribution to softening of seismic risk in region of Central Asia. For achievement of this purpose the broadband seismographic network in a mode of real time for an estimation of strong fluctuations in region will be established. Also will be estimated the effect of fluctuation of the earth on district. Were invited scientific seismologist of CA countries: Tadjikistan, Kazahstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan.
Planned 3 modular trainings for maintenance of stability and a coordination of applied methods
1. Seismic micro zoning with two submodules:
· measurements of earthquake and dot noise of separate station
· technique of the areal extentr definition of seismic noise
2. Management of a seismic network and Seiscomp3
3. An estimation of risk of transboundary earthquakes

October 13-14, 2008
The Сentral-Asian Institute of applied geosciences (CAIAG) and the German Centre of geosciences (GFZ) held a meeting of representatives of Hydrometeorological Services of Central Asia countries in the framework of declared by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany the project - regional research network «Water in Central Asia», at the time frame from October, 13 till October 14th, CAIAG, Bishkek. The basic purpose of the project was to establish sustainable scientific basis for transboundary water resources management in Central Asia on the basis of modern methods and the saved up experience. At the meeting discused and estimated current condition and requirements of hydrometeorological services of Central Asia countries for development of decisions on elaboration of land and satellite monitor systems for reception of hydrometeorological and land key parameters
The main tasks of the workshop:
"To find out the current state of hydrometeostations and hydroposts, needs and facilities required to widen the network.”
"Necessity for reception of updated parameters and parity of traditional devices and methods of observation and by means of automatic stations and hydroposts"
"Procedures of transfer, processing, a data storage and access possibility to them"
"Procedure of parameters exchange in CA, requirement for database creation on hydrometeorological parameters for development of hydro -climatic model for CA"

Workshop on “Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in Central Asia”
May 20-21, 2008 * Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
The “GLOFs in Central Asia” Workshop, coordinated by the Central Asian Institute of Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) and primarily sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC, Switzerland) and co-financed by the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ, Germany) and CAIAG, is aiming at revealing the status of competence in glacial outburst lakes issues in the Central Asian region, at identifying existing and required scientific, technical and organizational means and at determining the main trends, activities, resources required for the problem solving in Central Asia. In the workshop framework discussions on the various aspects concerning the management of glacial lakes, practical questions of future joint activities are planned to be addressed. At the same time, discussions on target directions of glacial lakes research, and also on issues related to the establishment and further development of monitoring and early warning systems at the CA national and regional levels are envisaged, taking into account present best practices of space-borne remote sensing systems, modern in-situ measurement techniques and most advanced communication technologies for the observation of glaciers and glacial lakes. The workshop bring together GLOFs related specialists from research institutions and representatives from hazard concerned organizations. Specialists representing research institutions and ministries of emergency situations of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Russia were invited to the workshop. A number of experienced scientists from Europe and abroad attended. The total number were 35 participants.
