February 7, 2020 in Bishkek, the National Seminar “Preparation of a Nationally Determined Contribution” (NDC) was held.

The seminar was organized by the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (SAEPF) and the UNDP Office in the Kyrgyz Republic, in the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement, ratified in 2019 by the Kyrgyz Republic.

The purpose of the event is that the National Seminar will provide a multilateral platform bringing together representatives of government agencies, the private sector, local self-government, civil society organizations, academic circles, development partners and the expert community to launch a process of national consultations on updating NDC. Participants shared their experiences, exchanged ideas, best practices and lessons learned in implementing climate actions.

The workshop contributes to strengthening the existing skills and capacities of national partners in the process of updating NDCs and the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

One of the key principles of the Paris Agreement is that all countries must submit increasingly ambitious climate action plans, known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) every five years, where the contribution is a specific contribution (position, commitment) of a country aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit global temperature growth to no more than two degrees Celsius and adapt to climate change.

The seminar was held with the participation of deputies of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Office of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, academic circles, civil society organizations, the private sector, UN agencies, development partners and the expert community.
