CAIAG Participated in International Water Security Forum

On March 25–26, scientists and policymakers from Asia and Europe convened at the international forum “Tashkent Water Week 2026” to exchange experiences and discuss their vision for the digital transformation of the water sector.

Key topics included the implementation of green standards, drinking water supply, food security, and efficient water use in the context of increasing water scarcity and climate change adaptation.

Bolot Moldobekov, Kyrgyz Co-Director of CAIAG, participated in an expert meeting on regional cooperation in water resources management in Central Asia. The meeting was organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI, Sweden) and the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Oliver Bens, German Co-Director of CAIAG, gave an opening speech of the Tashkent Water Security Forum and contributed to a panel discussion with experts from ministries and international research organisations.

Within the forum “Technologies and Innovations in Water Resources Management: Central Asia and the Global Water Cycle,” CAIAG presented on glacier monitoring, water level observations of Lake Issyk-Kul, and the state of water resources in the Kyrgyz Republic during sessions dedicated to water science and policy.

The aim of the Tashkent Water Security Forum is to bring together stakeholders from academia, politics and the field to exchange research findings, discuss perspectives and support evidence-based decisions in the areas of regional water management and climate adaptation to address the pressing water challenges in Central Asia.

The theme of the 2026 Forum, “From Knowledge to Action: Enhancing Science and Policy Dialogue for Improved Water Security in Central Asia”, underscores the urgent need to translate scientific findings into actionable policy and joint regional initiatives.
