On December 11 CAIAG, IUK, and IMI Organized a Roundtable Discussion for International Mountain Day
On December 11, Bolot Duishenalievich Moldobekov, Co-Director of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences, participated in a roundtable discussion titled " Glaciers, Water, Food, and Livelihoods in the Mountains and Beyond", dedicated to International Mountain Day.
Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic; Asylbek Aidaraliev and Rysbek Nurgaziyev, Academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Bolot Moldobekov, Co-Director of CAIAG, addressed the roundtable participants with welcoming remarks.
Ryskul Usubaliev, PhD, Head of the Climate, Water, and Geoecology Department at CAIAG, presented a report on "Changes in Water Resources in the Central Asian Region in the Context of Climate Change (Based on GRACE Data)," and Ruslan Kenjebaev, a CAIAG specialist, presented a report on "Monitoring and Study of Changes in the Mass Balance of Representative Glaciers in Kyrgyzstan under Current Climate Warming."
Representatives from the International Mountain Institute, the International University of Kyrgyzstan, the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University, the Institute of Mountain Physiology and Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Modern Information Technologies in Education also presented papers on mountain territories management, high-mountain glaciers, economic aspects of mountain life, human adaptation to mountain conditions, food security in the mountains, the Global Mountain University, and the participation of the Kyrgyz Republic delegation in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Brazil.
At the end of the roundtable, the participants adopted a resolution on actions for sustainable mountain development.

Let us remind that the UN, at the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic and with the support of 130 states, declared 2002 the International Year of Mountains and in 2003, taking into account the Bishkek Mountain Platform, proclaimed December 11 as International Mountain Day.
