Summer school on glaciers mass balance measurement Kyrgyzstan

From September 4 to 10, 2017 in Kyrgyzstan, a summer school on measuring the glaciers mass balance and their analysis was held in the framework of the CICADA project (CryospherIc Climate Services for Improved Adaptation). It included theoretical training in Bishkek (was held on the basis of the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences) and practical classes on the Batysh Sook Glacier (Inner Tien Shan).

Young specialists from universities, research institutes and hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) participated in the summer school. Participants of the summer school were trained by highly qualified experts in the field of glaciology and environmental monitoring, by university lecturers and lifeguard instructors from such countries as Switzerland, Russia, Norway, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

It should be noted that the CICADA project is funded and supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project is coordinated by the Department of Geosciences of the Fribourg University (Switzerland) on behalf of the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) and is implemented in collaboration with CAIAG and GFZ in the frame of the project implementation agreement.
